 October 08, 2025 / 7 pm Kulturreferat der LH München Tanzpreis für Zufit Simon schwere reiter The City of Munich Dance Award 2025 goes to dancer and choreographer Zufit Simon. This was decided by the City Council's Culture Committee on the recommendation of a jury of experts. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and has been awarded every three years since 1994. The Dance Prize is intended to honor an artist or ensemble working in Munich. It recognizes outstanding achievements in all styles of dance as well as individuals or groups of individuals who enhance Munich's reputation and prestige as a city of culture. Zufit Simon was born in Israel and has lived in Munich and Berlin for more than 25 years. She is a choreographer who dedicates her work to socio-political phenomena and often performs her own works on stage. Influenced by the Israeli dance scene, which had developed from expressive dance and modern dance, Zufit Simon came to Germany and, after completing her training in Frankfurt, became involved in dance in Munich. She initially performed as a dancer with the protagonists of the Munich scene who are still very much present today – Micha Purucker, Stephan Herwig, and Sabine Glenz. Then she began choreographing herself. Examples of her artistic and thoroughly political work include her critical yet humorous women's play Radical Cheerleading and the play Bodies in Rebellion, in which she searches for physical forms of expression for protest.
