PLATFORM FOR YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHY

Founded in 2016 by Johanna Richter and Birgitta Trommler, HIER=JETZT is an artist-led initiative aimed specifically at artists.
Originally conceived as an open format comprising workshops, courses and panel discussions, HIER=JETZT has evolved in recent years. Since 2022, eight to ten young choreographers have been selected each year to develop new or existing ideas over a period of two weeks. During this period, participants have access to free rehearsal spaces at schwere reiter, Tanztendenz and Iwanson International.

The results of these creative processes will be presented during two public ‘Open Space’ evenings, which are also free of charge. On the final evening, an audience award will also be presented. The winner will receive a working grant funded by the Norbert Jansen Foundation. HIER=JETZT continued to be curated by Johanna Richter and Birgitta Trommler until the 2025 edition, but has been presented as a Tanztendenz format for the first time since 2024.

Following the unexpected death of Birgitta Trommler in the spring of 2026, this year’s programme was dedicated in a very special way to this artist, who played a pivotal role in the platform’s creation and in nurturing the next generation of the independent arts scene in Munich. Her passion for working with young talent and her tireless commitment to the platform will remain a central part of HIER=JETZT in the future.

Johanna Richter on the theme of HIER=JETZT 2026: “This platform is certainly different from the last ten, but I am deeply convinced that Birgitta would not want us to mourn, but rather to carry on with all our might. The phrase ‘do not worship the ashes, but pass on the fire’ suits her like no other. So we carry into the future what we have fought for since the beginning of HIER=JETZT: creating a free space for young artists, supporting them in their ideas, believing in their talent – and never giving up, despite all the obstacles!”
