Förderpreis Tanz to Stephanie Felber
We congratulate Stephanie Felber on winning this year’s City of Munich ‘Förderpreis Tanz’!
From the jury’s statement:
“Stephanie Felber and her choreographic approach are shaped by film and the visual arts, and since her debut with ‘L’atelier de flanerie’ in 2015, she has focused on the composition of shared social spaces. Through her multimedia performances, the Munich-based choreographer explores and engages with a field that is unique within the city’s dance scene. Whether, as a visitor to ‘(In)Security’ (2019), one could have one’s pulse and muscle tension recorded by sensors and become part of the performance through the transmitted impulses, whether the focus is on abstract concepts such as emptiness or absence, or on the significance of the iconic image in our age characterised by visual overload: Body, space and perception researcher Stephanie Felber devotes herself to all these unusual subjects of inquiry with her incomparable curiosity, constantly evolving in a manner that is as logical as it is surprising. Both in terms of content and in her technical expertise, which extends far beyond the realm of videography...
...With her film-dance evening ‘Carnal Screen’, which premiered in 2023, she has even invented a new genre. In her work, there is no clear hierarchy between the real, physically present bodies of the dancers and their virtual counterparts. Felber’s visually striking works are usually accompanied by a multitude of atmospheric, (electro-)acoustic stimuli, coming together to form a sensual Gesamtkunstwerk. They continually re-examine dance as an art of movement and encounter, and the role of its audience, which often floats freely through the space. Eye-opening in the best sense of the word! [...]”
