Ballett des Staatstheaters am Gärtnerplatz: TROJA
Drawing on Euripides’ tragedy The Trojan Women, Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis places the theme of war at the heart of his new work, created specifically for the ballet company of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz. His “Troy” explores the price people must pay for armed conflict and the question of how selfish destructive rage inevitably affects individuals – particularly those who are marginalised and vulnerable. Using the now legendary ancient conflict as a lens, Andonis Foniadakis broadens the perspective to include contemporary conflicts in order to explore the question of how we can all work towards a more peaceful and just world.
