Maurice Ravel’s world-famous*Boléro* is a musical composition that builds to a sustained crescendo and culminates in pure ecstasy. Taking this orchestral classic as their starting point, Rykena/Jüngst embark on a humorous and sensual exploration of choreographic forms of climax in*Stripping Bolero*. The piece plays with climaxes, breaks them down, reassembles them and, in doing so, weaves together set pieces from well-known dramas, the history of dance and striptease. Dance, sign language and sign language poetry, audio description and erotic storytelling create a world on stage that lies between grand tragedies and tender intimacy.

This multi-sensory yet accessible performance uses seduction and eroticism to create an aesthetic of openness and invitation. The theatre space becomes more intense; tension is built up, then released; climaxes shift; bodies tumble to the floor or tell stories in reverse.
