Sandra Marín Garcia: “Beginners of All Ages. In the Space Between. Improvisation, Presence and Relational Movement”
Kinesthetic perception refers to the ability to perceive and regulate the position, movement, tension and exertion of one’s own body parts – that is, muscles, tendons and joints – even without visual feedback. It is a component of proprioception, enables spatial coordination and plays a central role in learning movements.
Through kinesthetic improvisation, the workshop invites participants to discover the body’s diverse capabilities, the interpersonal power of movement and their own deep sensitivity, which is shaped by various forms of interaction. The information from the receptors in muscles, tendons and joints does not come from outside the body, but simultaneously enables and enhances both unconscious and conscious control and coordination of movements.
In the ‘Beginners of All Ages’ course, exercises and games stimulate intuition and spontaneity, creating space for playful and responsive movement.
Sandra Marín Garcia graduated from the School of Dance and Choreography at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and is a certified practitioner of Yiquan, martial arts and healing arts at the Chen Academy in Switzerland. During her professional career, she has worked with several international companies, including the Polish Dance Theatre, the Theater Vorpommern in Greifswald and Stralsund, the Theater Dortmund, the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, the Cullberg Ballet, the Netherlands Dance Theatre I and Kidd Pivot. During this time, she worked with renowned choreographers such as Johan Inger, Paul Lightfoot, Sol León, Mats Ek, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Marina Mascarell, Jiří Kylián and Crystal Pite. She has been working as a choreographer and teacher since 2010 and, since 2022, has been head of the ‘Coreografia i interpretació’ department at the Conservatori Superior de Dansa of the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona.
