KONTUREN plays with the fascinating form that constantly takes on new shapes in dance through a wide variety of bodily and movement lines, sometimes revealing its “content” only gradually. “Jazz Suite” (to music by Dmitri Shostakovich), a ballet by Laurel Benedict, channels the musical flow of waltzes, polkas and serenades into the contours of the pointe shoe. One of the dance miniatures is “Salome”: Ada Ramzews’ solo creation based on the “Dance of the Seven Veils” from Richard Strauss’s opera paints the picture of a fascinatingly menacing, yet ultimately inscrutable woman.
