“But what is most unsettling is the silent, seemingly endless scream with a hand over the mouth, which appears to be directly inspired by Munch. The audience is enthralled; even before the applause breaks out, the first cries of ‘Bravo!’ can be heard.” (Deutsche Bühne, 13 September 2026)

Emotional, magnetic and deeply physical: you simply cannot look away. The highly skilled dancers of the Sharon Eyal Dance Company express emotions that defy description. With her latest work, which will have its world premiere at the Ruhrtriennale 2025, Eyal is breaking new ground.

Whilst the works of the Israeli star choreographer typically centre on undulating groups, in “Delay the Sadness” it is pairs who confront pain together. Sharon Eyal has dedicated the piece to her late mother, and in this light the dance can also be seen as an exploration of the finitude of life.

Beauty and ugliness lie close together: pain is not glorified, death is not romanticised. Eyal leaves the audience with this tension. Eyal is regarded as one of the most significant choreographers of our time. She is known to audiences in Fürstenfeldbruck for her works “Promise” and “Soul Chain”, which received standing ovations at tanzmainz in 2022 and 2019 respectively.
